Strawberries and Roses
June 9th was a full moon. Known as the Rose Moon or Strawberry Moon because it signifies when strawberries and roses are ready for harvest. Drawing inspiration from this mark in the lunar calendar, we created a Strawberry Rose Ice Cream!
The turn in season is bringing a time of excitement and reflection. Honoring old and new elements of Moonrose, this ice cream features ingredients from last season and this season, old land and new.
Wild roses were harvested from Jordan's parents property; the land where Moonrose cropped in its first year. Preserved strawberries from last season's harvest were roasted with this years first fruit. We sourced some berries from friends of ours at Nest and Song Farm. The sweet and tart berries were roasted until bubbly and caramelized before blending with the intoxicatingly fragrant roses.
Amongst our budding flower beds, emerging baby zucchinis, and quickly growing tomatoes, we look onwards towards a fruitful, abundant season. Thankful for the roots we made thus far and eager for what is to come.
